Claims Specialist

We're seeking a skilled Claims Consultant to join our National EBI/Energy Specialty Claims team. As a key member of our team, you will handle complex claims through all distribution channels, with a focus on commercial property, energy, and equipment breakdown claims.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and investigate large and complex commercial property, energy, and equipment breakdown claims, with exposures over $1 million.
- Engage and manage consultants, independent adjusters, accounts, and engineers to confirm coverage, determine liability, and assess damages.
- Mentor and guide regional file handlers to ensure consistent and effective claims handling and support long-term succession planning.
- Train colleagues on complex claims handling and provide technical advice.
- Work with Underwriting and Loss Prevention to identify potential risks, hazards, and trends.
- Provide excellent customer service to brokers, customers, and colleagues.
- Deliver and exceed on key performance indicators related to loss development, loss adjustment expenses, claims leakage control, and expense management.
- Leverage expertise in a creative, continuous improvement environment to support best practice operations.
- Effectively negotiate claims and attend settlement conferences and trials as needed.
- 10+ years of experience in direct handling of large and complex commercial property claims, with a minimum of 5 years of experience handling large and complex equipment breakdown and energy claims.
- Technical expertise acquired through extensive experience in direct handling of large and complex property claims.
- Critical thinking and intellectual curiosity when approaching complex problems in time-sensitive situations.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to foster favorable business relationships and provide clear guidance to clients.
- Ability to adapt to changing needs and understand the need to be flexible and agile.
- Strong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to establish and effective strategy.
- Passion for mentoring and coaching others, with a strong collaborative approach.
- Appropriate knowledge of relevant regulatory and legal requirements applicable to this position.
- Undergraduate degree or CIP designation (asset).
