Overview

The BC SPCA is a dynamic organization with facilities and services across the province of British Columbia. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as an Animal Care Attendant.

About the Position

This role reports to the Animal Centre Manager and involves participating in daily animal care duties, ensuring optimal levels of care are administered to the animals based on the Five Freedoms. You will work in a fast-paced environment with changing needs and priorities, requiring strong communication skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the physical plant in a clean, sanitary, and efficient manner on an ongoing basis
  • Ensure kennels, runs, and cat cages are kept in a manner best suited for the animal's health and welfare
  • Monitor the health and welfare of the animals through maintenance of up-to-date kennel cards and daily logs
  • Maintain animals on a proper diet, including daily feeding, watering, exercise, and enrichment
  • Perform general bathing and grooming of animals
  • Treat animals humanely, with compassion and concern, consistent with the BC SPCA's five freedoms
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Class N or 5 BC Drivers' License and driver's abstract
  • Strong desire to provide excellent customer service skills: patience, professional, positive attitude, attention to detail, adaptability
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Resourceful team player who excels at building trusting relationships with colleagues, customers, and volunteers
  • Highly motivated self-starter who takes initiative with minimal supervision
  • Sound knowledge of animals, their breeds, characteristics, and common diseases
  • Previous kennel or animal care experience considered an asset
  • Demonstrable interest in all aspects of animal welfare
  • Position is physically demanding and includes heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling; requires ability to maintain fitness and endurance
  • Computer experience: Windows, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)

Location and Salary

The successful candidate will be working in Dawson Creek, BC. The salary range for this position is $20.50 per hour, commensurate with experience.
