Animal Care Supervisor

About the Position
We are seeking an experienced Animal Care Supervisor to join our team at the BC SPCA. As a key member of our operations team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the optimal health and welfare of animals in our care.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing guidance and training to staff and volunteers on ShelterSense protocols, as well as assisting with the recruitment and selection of a high-performing team of shelter staff and volunteers.
Some specific duties of this role include:
- Assisting the Animal Centre Manager in attaining and maintaining optimum welfare standards in the shelter;
- Ensuring that the health and welfare needs of all animals in the care of the shelter are being actively managed;
- Trains staff and volunteers on ShelterSense programs and ensures that all animal interactions are conducted appropriately;
- Assists the Animal Centre Manager in implementing and maintaining all BC SPCA programs, policies, and procedures in the shelter;
- Provides support for general orientations, program-specific workshops, and training for staff and volunteers;
- Conducts reviews of shelter staff and volunteers at regular intervals;
- Oversees the implementation of high customer service standards and monitors overall customer satisfaction in the Animal Centre;
- Ensures the physical facility, equipment, and supplies are maintained in a condition acceptable to the Society;
- Ensures animals are treated humanely, with compassion, and concern;
- Ensures animals' health and well-being are maintained in accordance with BC SPCA policies and procedures;
Qualifications and Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent;
- A valid Class N or 5 BC Drivers' License and driver's abstract;
- A sound knowledge of animals, their breeds, characteristics, and common diseases;
- Previous kennel or animal care experience (an asset);
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience (preferred);
- Demonstrable interest in all aspects of animal welfare;
- The ability to work with other staff, volunteers, and the public in a positive, practical manner;
- Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills;
- Basic computer skills sufficient to deal effectively with front desk duties;
Salary and Benefits
The salary for this position is $24.50 per hour, commensurate with experience.
This is a full-time position working 35 hours per week, with various shifts. The successful candidate must be available to work weekends and holidays.
