Job Summary

The Manager, Emergency Planning is a critical role at Douglas College, responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive emergency management and business continuity plans. This position requires a strong leader who can ensure the safety and security of employees, students, contractors, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and assess emergency management and business continuity plans to ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and expertise to College employees on crisis and emergency planning and response.
  • Collaborate with departments to develop and maintain business continuity plans and ensure alignment with College plans.
  • Coordinate emergency activities with external emergency response services and authorities.
  • Stay current with changes to applicable legislation and emerging issues in emergency planning concepts.
  • Work closely with departmental managers to ensure coordinated and effective emergency plans and goals.
  • Manage the Emergency Response Supply program and implement the Douglas College Emergency Operations Centre.
  • Coordinate response teams and manage the College's EOC in the event of a crisis or disaster.
  • Maintain the operations and testing of the College emergency notification systems.
  • Conduct training sessions and orientations to familiarize employees and students with the College Emergency Management Program.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited post-secondary institution in a related area of study or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five years of demonstrated experience in leading business continuity and emergency planning in an environment of similar scope and complexity.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of business continuity, risk assessment, emergency planning, and incident command systems.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and leadership skills with ability to ensure effective decision-making.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills with proven experience in resolving conflict.
  • Training experience and current knowledge of issues, regulations, and best practices in business continuity and emergency management.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) and DRI Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) or Associate Business Continuity Professional (ABCP) designation.
  • Canadian Risk Management (CRM) or related designation is an asset.
