Halifax Regional Municipality is seeking a skilled Survey Technician to join our team in Project Planning and Asset Management, Public Works.

Job Summary:

The Survey Technician will work under the direction of the Team Lead, Field Surveys or Land Surveyor, to collect and layout positional information required for various types of legal, engineering, and construction survey projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining surveying equipment, collecting and compiling survey-related information, and communicating with internal staff and the public.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collect and layout positional information for various survey projects
  • Operate and maintain surveying equipment, including Leica total stations and Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS)
  • Collect and compile survey-related information from various sources
  • Communicate with internal staff and the public regarding survey projects
  • Take a lead role in recording field measurements and making field notes and sketches
  • Make technical decisions in the field to ensure efficiency and accuracy
Requirements:
  • Diploma in Geomatics Engineering Technology (2 years) from Nova Scotia Community College or other recognized institution
  • Minimum three (3) years' experience working in an urban surveying and engineering environment
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License and an acceptable Driver's Abstract
  • Certification in WHMIS, emergency first aid, traffic control, and temporary workplace signage
