Clinical Nurse Specialist

Job Summary
The Clinical Nurse Specialist - Mental Health Emergency will provide expert nursing care to children and youth presenting with complex mental health needs in the Emergency Department at BC Children's Hospital. This role requires a strong understanding of mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed care.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive mental health assessments and develop individualized care plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
- Provide crisis intervention and stabilization services to patients and families, including de-escalation techniques and emergency treatment.
- Collaborate with physicians, allied health professionals, and community resources to ensure seamless transitions of care.
- Act as a clinical resource and educator for the Emergency Department staff, providing guidance on mental health assessment, treatment, and care planning.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of policies and procedures related to mental health care.
Requirements
- Graduation from an approved Nursing Program with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
- One (1) year recent related experience working with children, adolescents, and families in a child/adolescent mental health or inpatient setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Current CPR and CPI training.
