Job Summary

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team at BC Children's Hospital. We are seeking a Clinical Nurse Specialist to provide high-quality patient care in our Outpatient Orthopedic Clinic.

About the Role

  • Provide direct patient care by implementing care plans and collaborating with the healthcare team to evaluate family-centered patient care.
  • Plan direct care for patients by reviewing patient/family history, developing care plans, and meeting with the healthcare team to discuss and review care plans.
  • Maintain patient records by collecting and documenting information, including healthcare information, nursing observations, and interventions.
  • Teach patients, family members, or caregivers by providing information, demonstrating procedures, and evaluating the effectiveness of teaching methods.
  • Participate in the orientation and continuing education of nursing staff and students by preceptoring and mentoring.
  • Identify learning needs, review them with the manager, and engage in learning activities to meet these needs.
  • Act as a clinical resource/support person to patients and families, and nursing and healthcare professionals, by explaining the theoretical rationale for nursing decisions.
  • Participate as a member of the healthcare team by contributing information in patient and family care conferences, rounds, and staff meetings.
  • Provide input to the manager regarding policies, procedures, and operational requirements by observing service needs and providing suggestions.
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients, families, and staff by following established emergency procedures and safety practices.
  • Promote the implementation and evaluation of research and quality improvement activities, including knowledge generation, translation, and dissemination, as directed.
