About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Civil/Hydrologic Engineer to join our team at DNV. As a key member of our Civil Engineering team, you will play a critical role in supporting our US and Canadian operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mentor and guide team members in their professional development, providing training and guidance on new services and technologies.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver Independent Engineering, Owner's Engineering, and Merger & Acquisition services.
  • Support the preliminary design of solar and wind projects, from siting to preliminary design, and EPC bid handling.
  • Review civil design drawings and studies for solar and wind energy project's civil infrastructure, to support project financing or owner due diligence processes.
  • Evaluate root cause analyses from flooding and erosion of solar and wind energy projects.
  • Observe and document solar and wind energy project construction.
  • Evaluate innovative design concepts for solar and wind energy project site design.
  • Support business development activities, engaging in authentic, expertise-driven discussions with key accounts and customers.
  • Conduct construction monitoring site visits, construction QA/QC documentation review, and proposal preparation for civil work scope.
  • Manage small to large projects, prioritizing QHSSE considerations to ensure safe execution and a healthy work environment.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Hydrology.
  • At least 10 years of experience in project design through construction, with a minimum of 5 years in the renewable energy industry.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil3D, and/or other Autodesk design tools.
  • Proficiency in IBC, ASCE 7, and other common civil hydrology design codes.
  • Understanding of hydrologic and hydraulic concepts and analysis, specific to assessments at solar and wind projects.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic engineering software systems (FLO2D, HEC-RAS, WMS, SMS, or equivalents).
  • Knowledge of common layout concepts and understanding of typical construction methods for solar and wind energy projects.
  • Understanding of stormwater management regulations in the US and/or Canada for project construction.
  • Able to work independently and make independent decisions when called for.
  • Willing and able to travel up to 25% of the time, both domestic and international.
  • Willing and able to use common construction personal protective equipment, walk over uneven terrain, and climb ladders during site visits.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience with other infrastructures (transmission line, substation, hydrogen).
  • Prior experience in land surveying and mapping.
  • Prior experience with GIS, hydraulic modeling, FEMA requirements.
