Machinist Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled Machinist Technician to join our team at the University of Toronto. As a key member of our department, you will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge research and teaching priorities.
About the Role:
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, fabricating, installing, maintaining, and repairing unique scientific devices, components, and precision instruments for research purposes and undergraduate teaching. This role requires excellent machining skills, attention to detail, and strong problem-solving abilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Designing and modifying custom machine parts using mechanical drawings and client specifications
- Operating fabrication equipment in accordance with established standards
- Verifying the accuracy of design requirements and ensuring equipment is in working order
- Handling minor equipment repairs and providing safety training and adherence to safety procedures and standards
Requirements:
- College Diploma (2 years) in Aerospace Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, General Machinist, Tool and Die Maker or Mould Maker or acceptable combination of equivalent experience and education
- Minimum three years of recent and relevant experience in any combination of machining, tool and die making, or mould making
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with manual and powered/energized resources
- Demonstrated general machinist skills in one of the following areas: Milling or Turning
