We are seeking an experienced Audiologist to join our Public Health team in Abbotsford. As an Audiologist (WWGS), you will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and treating children with hearing-related issues, including the fitting of amplification devices. You will provide guidance to Audiometric Technicians and consultative services to clients, parents, other health professionals, and community members.
Responsibilities- Perform audiological assessments for infants, preschool, and school-age children with suspected hearing disorders and/or related disorders.
- Identify, assess, diagnose, and provide rehabilitative treatment to clients with hearing disorders; perform follow-up testing; adapt assessment and testing procedures to accommodate clients of different ages and those with special needs.
- Evaluate, select, and fit hearing aids for clients; provide ongoing monitoring of hearing aids; coordinate funding assistance for clients requiring hearing aids as needed.
- Screen children/family and provide information or referral to other agencies for further follow-up; counsel and educate clients and their families regarding hearing-related issues, the results of assessments, treatment plans, the use of hearing aids, and roles and responsibilities in the treatment process.
- Provide guidance to Audiometric Technicians by ensuring standards are met, are familiar with program policies and directives through a process of orientation, and by regular communication and updates.
- Maintain related records, documentation, and statistics; prepare reports in accordance with established standards and procedures.
- Provide input into the audiology program by analyzing priorities, recommending equipment acquisitions and replacements.
- Maintain inventory of hearing aids and related equipment, including monitoring revenue and expenses; authorize orders for hearing aids.
- Calibrate audiometric equipment as required.
- Develop and maintain effective and efficient communication links with the community by liaising with colleagues, community agencies, schools, government, and other healthcare professionals.
- Interpret audiology policies and apply them accordingly to the audiology program.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Education, Training, and Experience:
Graduation from an approved school of Audiology. One (1) year's recent, related clinical experience or a combination of education, training, and experience.
Current active registration with the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of BC and certification in applicable advanced competency. Eligible for membership in the Canadian and/or BC Association of Speech/Language Pathology and Audiology (CASLPA and/or BCSLPA).
Valid BC Driver's License and access to personal vehicle for business-related purposes.
Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated thorough knowledge of theory, principles, methods, objectives, and practices of Audiology and its application to the diagnosis and treatment of hearing disorders in children.
- Demonstrated knowledge of equipment and materials used in the assessment and treatment of hearing disorders.
- Ability to select, evaluate, and fit hearing aids.
- Ability to plan, select, implement, and evaluate individual client plans for the assessment and rehabilitation of persons with hearing problems.
- Ability to counsel/train clients and parents.
- Ability to select, administer, and interpret various Audiology tests.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, including the ability to work in a team and client-focused environment.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to deal effectively with conflict.
- Ability to teach.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
