At the Aboriginal Health Wellness Centre of Winnipeg Inc, we are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Parent Mentor to join our team. As a Parent Mentor, you will play a vital role in providing support and guidance to families in our community, helping them to overcome challenges and achieve their goals.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide Counseling and Support: Offer individualized counseling and support to program participants, focusing on establishing goals, objectives, and monitoring progress.
- Coordinate Home Visitation and Community Support: Arrange home visitation and community support activities to maintain contact and deliver services tailored to the needs of constituents.
- Maintain Awareness of Community Resources: Stay informed about agencies, programs, and supports providing health, wellness, and lifestyle services, ensuring effective integration and delivery of services.
- Facilitate Personal Growth Activities: Organize and support individual and group activities, such as personal counseling sessions, Sharing Circles, Sweats, and Retreats, to promote personal growth and knowledge sharing.
- Record Keeping and Advocacy: Maintain accurate records of constituent contacts, visits, and appointments, and advocate on behalf of constituents to address immediate needs and promote empowerment.
- Education and Experience: Degree in Social Work, Social Sciences, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Knowledge and Experience: Demonstrated knowledge and experience in dealing with prenatal substance abuse/misuse issues using a multi-discipline intervention and treatment approach.
- Community Experience: Previous experience working within an Aboriginal-based community services providing physical, emotional, spiritual, and social support to individuals and families.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with constituents and colleagues.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Indigenous Language Skills: Ability to communicate in an Indigenous language(s) is an asset.
