Contract Specialist

The Contract Specialist is a key member of the Contracts & Commercial function at Irving Shipbuilding, responsible for supporting the contract management lifecycle, including development, compliance, maintenance, and change. This role requires a strong understanding of contract management principles and practices, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the development and implementation of contract management processes and procedures.
- Support the preparation and review of contract documentation, including contract amendments, task authorizations, and contract change proposals.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with contractual requirements and interface with customers on matters related to contract execution.
- Prepare and review contract change proposals and subcontractor's change order proposals, including development and review through to the contract change board with final approval from the customer.
- Track and monitor contract value, task value, and change impacts.
- Prepare inputs to monthly progress reports and progress review meetings.
- Maintain a commercial action log with Canada.
- Develop and maintain key working relations with the customer.
- Bachelor's degree in a related discipline (e.g. business, law, engineering) or equivalent years of professional experience.
- A minimum of 2 years' experience in contracts management and contracts administration.
- Professional knowledge of complex contracting, preferably in construction or manufacturing environments or defence industry.
- Familiarity with the shipbuilding industry and defence/government contracts considered an asset.
All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
