SkillsWave Corporation is a dynamic organization on a mission to drive people and businesses forward by providing quality learning opportunities that align with organizational needs. We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our team, playing a pivotal role in overseeing and managing general accounting operations.
The successful candidate will ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting, supporting various accounting functions within the organization. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail with a strong understanding of cross-border financial regulations, accounting principles, and best practices.
This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports. The position is hybrid, requiring the individual to travel on-site 2-3 days per week to an office located within the Kitchener-Waterloo region. The current office location for SkillsWave is a co-working space at Catalyst Commons, but this location may change based on company growth. In addition, this position is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Accountant will execute day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, and reconciliation. Additionally, they will execute financial transactions associated with payroll processing, ensure accurate and timely invoicing of customers, and manage and maintain the general ledger. Other responsibilities include reconciling balance sheet accounts, investigating discrepancies, and resolving issues related to account balances. The successful candidate will also collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior leaders to ensure alignment of financial data and business objectives.
Suggested Qualifications/Experience
We are looking for candidates with progressive experience in finance or accounting roles, preferably in the technology sector. A CPA, CMA, or equivalent designation is required. Strong knowledge of Canadian and U.S. Accounting Standards and familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements are essential. Proficiency in financial management software (e.g., QuickBooks) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel are also necessary. Experience with payroll and benefits processing systems is an asset.
What You Will Bring to the Team
The ideal candidate will possess an entrepreneurial spirit and enthusiastic attitude, demonstrating proactive problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues, evaluate alternatives, and implement effective solutions. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are crucial for conveying financial information to non-financial stakeholders. Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to achieve shared objectives is also essential. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, deadlines, and business needs in a fast-paced environment is vital. Commitment to upholding ethical standards, confidentiality, and integrity in financial practices and decision-making is expected. Finally, excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines effectively, are necessary.
Salary and Benefits
The salary for this position is $80,000 to $95,000, based on minimum level of work experience and qualifications as listed above. This salaried position requires a minimum of 40 hours of work per week.
