At the University of the Virgin Islands, we are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Research Scientist to join our team in the field of Data Science. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data analysis, machine learning, and programming skills.

About the Job

This part-time position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research projects and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams. As a Senior Research Scientist, you will be responsible for designing and implementing data-driven solutions, analyzing complex datasets, and communicating findings through reports and presentations.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and participate in collaborative research projects, focusing on data management, statistical analysis, and data visualization.
  • Develop and implement data models, algorithms, and machine learning techniques to solve complex problems.
  • Analyze large datasets, identify trends, and provide actionable insights to inform decision-making.
  • Design and maintain databases, ensuring data quality, security, and accessibility.
  • Collaborate with researchers, faculty, and staff to develop research proposals, grants, and publications.
  • Supervise and mentor junior researchers, providing guidance and support in their professional development.
Requirements
  1. Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field, with a strong publication record.
  2. Proven experience in data analysis, machine learning, and programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL.
  3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications

A Ph.D. in a related field and experience with Power BI, Microsoft Office, and database management systems would be advantageous.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $85,000 per annum, commensurate with qualifications and experience. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
