About the Opportunity

Brock University Library invites applications for the position of Associate University Librarian (AUL), Research.

As a member of a collaborative senior library leadership team, the AUL Research will work closely with the University Librarian, other colleagues in the Library, and the wider university community to provide creative leadership in the development and implementation of the Library's strategic priorities and objectives.

The AUL will provide strategic leadership in the development of innovative new services, programs and initiatives, supervise, support, and collaborate with department heads, human resources and budgets, and provide sponsorship and leadership of key projects and initiatives.

  • Strong understanding of the strategic role of the library in the academic environment, including the development and implementation of strategic plans and priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage, empower and motivate people, and foster teamwork, as well as experience in leading and championing innovation in one or more of the areas in this portfolio (collections, archives and special collections, and the research lifecycle).
  • Highly collaborative and collegial, with the ability to participate in shared decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to advocate and promote library value, as well as a record of scholarship and/or professional development in the library and information science community.
  • Strong understanding of inclusivity, accessibility, reconciliation and decolonization, and a demonstrated commitment to advance a diverse and inclusive work environment.

Qualifications

  • A Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library program or equivalent.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience as a professional librarian or archivist demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Formal leadership and management experience within a library or archives environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and champion innovation in one or more of the areas in this portfolio (collections, archives and special collections, and the research lifecycle).

Assets

  • Master's degree in a related discipline.
  • Experience in an academic library or archives environment.
  • Experience with planning and preparing a budget in a library context.
  • Active participation in consortial networks.
  • Knowledge of collection acquisitions business practices.
  • Knowledge of assessment and evaluation concepts.
