Strategic Operations Director for Emerging Technologies

Coastal Carbon is a pioneering startup driving positive impact through earth observation and AI. Founded by a team of PhDs and engineers at the University of Waterloo, we're backed by leading AI and climate tech investors, angel investors, and partners like Amazon AWS and the United Nations.

We're developing multimodal foundation models for the natural world, leveraging satellite remote sensing and real-world data to create solutions for nature conservation, carbon dioxide removal, and government initiatives.

This key role will support our CEO in shaping the company's commercial strategy, team build-out, and operational systems as we scale rapidly. Key responsibilities include:

Commercial Strategy and Team Development
  • Collaborate with the CEO to develop our commercial roadmap and case studies.
  • Prioritize markets, pricing, partnerships, and conduct outreach.

Rapidly Evolving Startup Environment

Support the development and implementation of a dynamic reporting system to track team performance against key goals.

Monitor Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) to track progress towards goals and drive visibility and performance across the company.

  • Support the build-out of a high-performing team, optimizing hiring processes to attract A-players.
  • Oversee HR functions, including onboarding, performance reviews, and compensation processes.

Stakeholder Engagement and Fundraising

Assist the CEO in building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, including board members, investors, partners, clients, and suppliers.

Support fundraising efforts through material generation.

Operational Excellence

Oversee project budgets and finances, including financial performance reporting and budget projections.

Handle routine correspondence and manage the CEO's day-to-day schedule.

Identify and resolve operational challenges to ensure smooth project management.

Education and Experience

A Bachelor's degree, with an MBA preferred but not required.

5+ years of experience in tech, VC, consulting, finance, or operations in a high-growth startup environment.
