About the Role:

In line with Alberta Health Services' Mission Statement and Values, the Environmental Services Worker I (ESI) is a key member of the Environmental Services Team. The ESI is responsible for routine cleaning, waste collection, and facility upkeep, as well as detailed or special cleanings in areas such as operating rooms, pharmacies, and other high-risk zones.

The ESI must adhere to Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) standards and perform other related duties as required. Daily routines and approaches at work are focused on producing a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for patients, residents, visitors, and staff. The ESI must maintain the highest level of confidentiality and be respectful and compassionate in all interactions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine cleaning and disinfecting tasks in clinical and non-clinical healthcare environments
  • Restock supplies in bathroom facilities and replenish cleaning supplies and linens
  • Identify and report potential hazards to the Working Leader
  • Participate in the training and orientation of new staff

Requirements:

  • Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent
  • Knowledge and operation of a computer, including Microsoft Office
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and perform repetitive movements
  • Physically capable of lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 22 lbs of force

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Basic computer skills
  • Previous cleaning experience
  • Ability to clean in isolation areas (ED, OR, ICU, NICU, etc.)
  • WHMIS certificate
