About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team at Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the pre and post-analytical phases of testing in our laboratory.

Under the direction of management, you will be responsible for performing various functions, including:

  • Specimen procurement, receipt, and processing
  • Data entry and media preparation
  • Supply management and troubleshooting
  • Customer service and communication with stakeholders

You will work collaboratively with our team to ensure accurate and efficient laboratory operations. Positive patient identification and accurate specimen handling are essential to this role.

The ideal candidate will have a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent, and be registered with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS). You will also possess strong written and verbal communication skills, basic understanding of medical terminology, and manual dexterity to handle sharp instruments and small objects.

We offer a competitive hourly rate of $26.27 and a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
