Job Title: HR Advisor

About the Role:

The BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS is seeking an experienced HR Advisor to join our team. As an HR Advisor, you will provide expert advice and guidance to leaders and managers on human resources matters, including recruitment, labour relations, and organizational policy and procedure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with directors, leaders, and managers to promote HR involvement in strategic and operational planning.
  • Provide support in the recruitment of strategic or senior-level positions, including full-cycle recruitment.
  • Develop and mature core HR business processes, including recruitment, retention, attendance management, compensation, employee engagement, training, and development.
  • Support the review and development of HR policies, procedures, and guidelines for managers and staff.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor on labour relations, providing expert knowledge of collective agreements, legislation, case law, and organizational policies and practices.
  • Coach clients and liaise with unions on labour relations concerns, including performance/attendance management, displacement, discipline, employer practice issues, and job share agreements.
  • Facilitate the management and investigation of union grievances, including third-party hearings.
  • Oversee Duty to Accommodate (DTA)/Graduated Return to Work (GRTW) processes, working with the Occupational Health Nurse, unions, employees, and related departments/units.
  • Work to identify specific organizational human resources focus areas to optimize operational and organizational efficiencies.
  • Support the HR Manager in leading the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) committee.
  • Support the remediation and resolution of organizational challenges or gaps in HR processes.
  • Participate in various internal and external committees related to human resources and/or client business.
  • Maintain knowledge of HR best practices and industry standards by attending approved HR seminars or conferences, remaining current on trainings and certifications, and keeping updated on changes in HR legislation, policies, and guidelines.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor/Masters degree from a reputable university in a related field, plus five (5) years of progressively senior human resource experience in a large, complex unionized environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a healthcare environment preferably in British Columbia.
  • CPHR certification would be an asset.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and clear understanding of Collective and Facilities Bargaining Agreements.
  • Experienced working in unionized environments.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current employment legislation and relevant case law.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of human resources management principles and best practices.
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships, both internal and external.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Effective mediation and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to provide client-focused services.
  • Ability to lead change and manage conflict.
  • Effective project management skills.
