Educational Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Educational Support Specialist to join our team at the Abbotsford School District. As an integral part of our educational team, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special needs to achieve their Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students, adhering to established policies and procedures.
- Provide academic support to students with special needs, working one-on-one and in small groups to reinforce concepts and adapt learning materials as required.
- Monitor student progress and provide regular updates to teachers, parents, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of individualized plans.
- Collaborate with teachers and other support staff to provide comprehensive support to students.
- Assist with social integration, behavior management, and personal health and hygiene needs of students.
- Administer minor first aid and ensure the safe and orderly storage of special equipment and supplies.
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent, supplemented by graduation from an Education Assistant Program.
- Current CPI (Crisis, Prevention, and Intervention) certification.
- Minimum 1 year of recent related work experience with special needs students.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License.
- Proven ability to use Microsoft Office programs, internet, and internet-based programs.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and provide service and relationship to the public and School District in a professional, respectful, positive, and courteous manner.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive, effective work relationships in a team environment.
- Working knowledge of WHMIS and WorkSafe BC occupational health and safety regulations.
- Ability to be flexible, adaptable, and resilient to change.
- Experience supporting special needs students at the secondary school level.
- POPARD (Provincial Outreach Program for Autism and Related Disorders) training.
- Level 1 First Aid certification.
