Job Title: Database Administration Specialist

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Database Administration Specialist to join our team at Equitable Life of Canada. As a key member of our IT Infrastructure department, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing our enterprise database server infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the design, implementation, and management of the company's enterprise database server infrastructure
  • Infrastructure and business systems project delivery
  • Support the design and manage database server infrastructure services to ensure the effective uptime to meet a 24x7 business systems infrastructure
  • Ensure database server infrastructure operations and management controls, processes, policies, and standards for the Company based on industry standards, best principles and commonly applied good practices
  • Perform continuous improvement, automation and innovation in the management and delivery of database server infrastructure operations and practices
  • Ensure database server infrastructure is designed, implemented and managed to meet necessary capacity, demand and availability requirements
  • Establish, monitor and meet key performance indicators in support of IT infrastructure, business systems, and Company operational metrics
  • Support application management teams in the effective tuning and optimizing of business systems to meet necessary performance
  • Provide timely response to database server infrastructure incidents
  • Ensure accountability to IT governance activities and processes inclusive of Change Advisory Board and Architecture Review Board
  • Jointly responsible for asset, vendor, and financial management activities related to database server infrastructure
  • Constantly evaluate and research of relevant trends and issues and how they would apply to the Company
  • Actively participate in IT infrastructure, architecture and services community

Requirements:

  • Minimum ten (10) years in IT
  • Five (5) to six (6) years in a database administration / analyst role
  • Microsoft or similar technical certifications
  • Strong/expert knowledge and experience designing and managing enterprise Microsoft SQL database server environments
  • Strong/expert knowledge and experience in database performance tuning, debugging, profiling, and analytics, with a string emphasis on performance
  • Strong/expert knowledge of and experience with database systems management processes and practices including monitoring, scripting, patching, and maintenance
  • Strong knowledge and experience in Azure cloud technologies
  • Knowledge and experience in other database technologies such as Cosmos or PosGres
  • Knowledge and experience managing and implementing business technology resiliency / high-availability database server designs (incl. mirroring, clustering, replication) and operations
  • Knowledge of and experience in data / schema design, database development practices, and overall database architectures
  • Solid/strong knowledge and experience with development methodologies
  • ITIL v3 or v4 Foundations certification a strong asset
  • Solid/strong knowledge and experience with Microsoft business intelligence technologies
  • Familiarity with agile, lean, and DevOps principles
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with focus and attention to detail
  • A critical thinker and innovator
  • Superb communications (written, verbal, presentation) and negotiation skills and experience with conveying complex, technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Maintain confidentiality with extremely critical and sensitive information
  • Outstanding team player, focused on customer service excellence, technical execution, diligence to the process, and doing the right thing
  • Post-secondary technical or business diploma and/or equivalent working experience
