About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Housing Coordinator to join our team at Kílala Lelum Health and Wellness Cooperative. As a key member of our community outreach team, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals and families in need of housing assistance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Caseload Management: Manage a caseload of 20-30 members, providing individualized support and advocacy to ensure their housing needs are met.
  • Housing Education and Support: Facilitate weekly housing education sessions in partnership with our Indigenous Wellness Hub, empowering members with the knowledge and skills needed to maintain stable housing.
  • Housing Plans and Advocacy: Contribute to the creation and amendment of Housing Plans, advocating on behalf of members to ensure their needs are met and their rights are protected.
  • Community Partnerships: Develop and maintain strong relationships with other supportive housing societies in the community, fostering a network of resources and services to support our members.
  • Resource Coordination: Facilitate access to community resources and services, including food sources, budgeting assistance, and housing-related skills training.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with Social Navigation Outreach Workers, the interprofessional care team, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless service delivery and effective communication.
Requirements
  • Experience: Minimum two (2) years of recent relevant work experience, with a strong preference for experience working in housing services and/or with individuals affected by houselessness and housing insecurity.
  • Skills: Strong organizational skills, ability to create and manage a caseload, and experience with de-escalation techniques, mental health first aid, and cultural competency.
  • Education: Training in de-escalation or non-violent crisis intervention, mental health first aid, and/or a certificate or diploma in a related field (e.g., Community Services Worker, Counselling).
  • Cultural Competency: Demonstrated understanding, commitment, and ability to be culturally safe and culturally appropriate with KL members, with experience and knowledge of Indigenous peoples and Indigenous culture an asset.
Working Conditions
  • Physical Demands: Requires physical ability to carry out the duties of the position, including walking up to 5km/day and physically moving belongings.
  • Work Environment: Homebase will be 687 Powell Street, with approximately 2/3 of time spent offsite doing service delivery.
