Highway Maintenance Specialist

As a Highway Maintenance Specialist with 407 ETR, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our highway corridor. This position requires a strong understanding of road repair and maintenance procedures, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive a patrol vehicle to patrol the highway corridor, assessing road conditions and determining necessary actions.
- Conduct annual inspections of roadway and highway assets to ensure optimal performance.
- Respond to and assist in coordinating incident response and emergency situations, such as collisions and traffic control.
- Coordinate and direct winter maintenance operations, including snow removal and ice control.
- Work in all weather conditions, both in and out of the vehicle.
- Collect and document incident data related to highway damage.
- Install and remove traffic control and lane closures, as per the Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7.
- Assist motorists with mechanical or other difficulties.
- Maintenance operations in the summer, including grass cutting, fence repair, tree cutting, crash system repair, and sign installation.
Qualifications:
- Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in construction, road maintenance, or a relevant field.
- Demonstrated knowledge of road repair and maintenance procedures, contract administration, and inspection.
- Demonstrated experience using computers and applications.
- Experienced in pavement inspection and design.
- Ability to work independently and with others with little supervision.
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Ontario Traffic Manual (Book 7).
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to make decisions quickly under pressure.
- Valid Class DZ driver's license.
- Good knowledge of GTA freeways and surrounding arterial roadways.
- Shift work required, including rotating schedules and night work.
