Registered Nurse (RN) Role Overview
BC Children's Hospital is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our Intensive Care Unit team. As a Registered Nurse, you will provide and coordinate nursing care services, including patient assessment, patient and family teaching, and health promotion activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement care plans and collaborate with the healthcare team to evaluate patient care.
- Plan direct care for patients by reviewing patient history, developing care plans, and meeting with the healthcare team.
- Maintain patient records by collecting and documenting information, including healthcare information, nursing observations, and interventions.
- Teach patients, family members, or caregivers by providing information, demonstrating procedures, and evaluating teaching methods.
- Participate in the orientation and continuing education of nursing staff and students by preceptoring and mentoring.
Requirements
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives.
- One year recent related experience in the designated clinical area or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to relate effectively to children and their families and others.
- Ability to function as an active member of a multidisciplinary care team.
- Ability to demonstrate effective CPR techniques.
- Ability to operate related equipment, including applicable computer software.
- Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action, In Plain Sight Report, BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, and other related reports.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada.
