We are seeking a highly skilled Executive Counsel to join our team in Calgary, Alberta.

Salary: $168,870 - $209,124 per year (bi-weekly salary: $6,470.44)

About the Role:

  • Assist one or two Court of Appeal Justices in the efficient administration of justice through legal and administrative services.
  • Prepare for appeals and applications, conduct research, analyze laws, prepare memoranda, and edit judgments.
  • Review appeal materials, consult with justices on legal issues, and assign/review research by students.
  • Stay updated on changes in legislation and case law.
  • Maintain internal legal resources for the judiciary and staff.
  • Participate in court administration committee work and manage the student program.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD) degree with at least 4 years of related experience.
  • Extensive experience with Canadian legal research tools, strong research and analytical skills, and excellent writing skills.
  • Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta or eligibility for membership.
  • Provide a cover letter, law school transcripts, and a general writing sample.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Laws degree (LLM)
  • Law journal and other legal writing experience
  • Supervisory work experience
  • Written and oral communication skills in French
