Job Summary

This is a summer student position based out of the Acheson facility with occasional travel to various McAsphalt facilities in Western Canada. As a Health and Safety Assistant, you will be a member of the McAsphalt HSE&Q Team responsible for building a culture of excellence and awareness in health and safety. Your responsibilities will include assisting with the development and execution of work procedures, making health, safety, and environmental recommendations, and supporting the Regional Specialist and Facility Managers with preparing, maintaining, and updating plant-specific HSE&Q policies and manuals.

Main Responsibilities


• Assist with special projects, including Risk Control Projects (RCP).

• Provide support with environmental engineering initiatives.

• Prepare, develop, and implement site compliance audits working with the corporate HSE Manager.

• Develop and deliver site-specific health, safety, and environmental training.

• Assist with accident/incident investigations and the development/implementation of effective corrective actions.

• Provide support for the continual improvement of the facility Integrated Management System (IMS) as it relates to HSE.

• Assist the HSE Specialist and Facility Management with compliance monitoring.

• Monitor and analyze applicable regulations and communicate information on changes in the regulatory environment and delegate responsibility for further analysis and implementation.

• Lead, coordinate, or participate on multidisciplinary project teams.

• Conduct and assist with the development of job hazard analysis and direct completion of corrective actions.

• Provide input into specific work instructions for day-to-day tasks.

• Conduct workplace safety inspections and safety talks.

• Act as a site HS committee member.

• Inspect and maintain emergency equipment.

• Other duties as required.

Requirements


• Completion or working towards a designation (CRSP, NCSO) or bachelor's degree in health, safety, or environmental field or equivalent experience required.

• Demonstrated HSE work experience.

• Thorough working understanding of Provincial and Canadian Occupational Health and Safety laws and regulations is essential.

• Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communications skills.

• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel at the intermediate level.

• Proficient in English.

• Good interpersonal/coaching and strong organizational skills.

• Knowledgeable in the areas involving government regulations and worker's compensation rules and regulations.

• Valid driver's license. Clean Driver's Abstract. Ability to travel to various facilities in Western Canada.
