About the Role:

The Estimator III position at Seaspan is a key member of our team responsible for preparing accurate labour and material estimates for dry docking, ship maintenance, repair, conversions, and new constructions. This role requires a strong analytical mind, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with various stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare detailed estimates for ship repair and maintenance projects, including labour and material costs.
  2. Communicate with owners, customers, and project managers throughout the bid process and after contract award.
  3. Carry out calculations to determine man-hour and material requirements.
  4. Research and recommend specialized products, equipment, and systems for projects.
  5. Assess the suitability of specifications and owner expectations.
  6. Solicit bids for contracted work and select the best option.
  7. Provide management with summaries of estimated labour and material costs.
  8. Prepare and submit bid documents and owners' bid submission sheets.
  9. Provide technical and administrative assistance to the Production department.
  10. Monitor the cost of work and prepare monthly estimating reports.

Requirements:

  • Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree in Naval Architecture or Engineering.
  • 10 years operational or technical experience in the ship repair industry with a minimum of 5 years estimating experience.
  • Demonstration of business ethics, integrity, and honesty.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable rules and regulations in the marine industry.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
