Estimator III

The Estimator III is a key member of our team at Seaspan, responsible for preparing accurate labour and material estimates for dry docking, ship maintenance, and repair projects. This role requires strong analytical and mathematical skills, as well as excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare detailed estimates for labour and materials, including soliciting pricing from suppliers and consulting with Drydock personnel and contractors.
  • Communicate with owners and customer representatives throughout the bid process and after contract award.
  • Carry out calculations and assessments to determine man-hour and material requirements.
  • Research specialized products and equipment, and assess their suitability for projects.
  • Assess scope and practicality of specifications and owner expectations.
  • Solicit bids for work to be contracted out, and select the best option.
  • Provide management with summaries of estimated labour and material, and overviews of work content.
  • Prepare and submit bid documents, and may sign bid if directed by the Manager.

Requirements:

  • Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree in Naval Architecture or Engineering.
  • 10 years operational or technical experience in the ship repair industry, with a minimum of 5 years estimating experience.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills, with knowledge of marine terminology and safety practices.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
