About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Bilingual Senior Underwriter to join our team at Sun Life. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will be responsible for evaluating and approving applications for Life and Critical Illness Insurance products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze medical, personal, and financial information to assess eligibility for insurance applications.
  • Assess and classify risk, gathering additional information as needed and referring cases to specialists when required.
  • Approve cases within your authority limit and submit cases exceeding limits for co-signature.
  • Negotiate with reinsurers to secure favorable decisions for clients, in accordance with reinsurance treaties and internal rules.
  • Liaise with business leaders and advisors to deliver exceptional service and expertise.
  • Respond to inquiries from financial advisors and general agents without revealing confidential information.
Requirements
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is required for frequent interactions with colleagues and internal partners across Canada and worldwide.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as an Individual Life Underwriter.
  • Existing Life and Critical Illness signing authorities.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Strong analytical, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of medicine and risk factors.
  • Service-oriented attitude with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure, prioritizing multiple tasks.
  • Specialized training: ALU certificate and commitment to ongoing education, with a goal of attaining the Fellow, Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU) and Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) designations.
