Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and bilingual Senior Underwriter to join our team at Sun Life. As a Senior Underwriter, you will be responsible for analyzing medical, personal, and financial information to evaluate eligibility for Life and Critical Illness Insurance products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze medical, personal, and financial information to evaluate eligibility for applications submitted for Life and Critical Illness Insurance products
  • Assess and classify risk, gather additional information, obtain medical tests, or refer cases as required
  • Approve cases within authority limits and submit cases exceeding limits for co-signature
  • Negotiate better decisions from reinsurers when necessary, in accordance with reinsurance treaties and internal rules
  • Liaise with business leaders and advisors to deliver exceptional service and expertise
  • Respond to inquiries from financial advisors and general agents without revealing confidential content
Requirements
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is required for frequent interactions with colleagues and internal partners across Canada and worldwide
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as an Individual Life Underwriter
  • Existing Life and Critical Illness signing authorities
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Strong analytical, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Knowledge of medicine and risk factors
  • Service-oriented attitude with excellent interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with internal and external partners
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines, work under pressure, and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Specialized training: ALU certificate and commitment to ongoing education with a goal of attaining the Fellow, Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU) and Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) designations
