Role Overview

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Support Services Coordinator to join our Suicide Prevention and Addictions Team at Vancouver General Hospital in Vancouver, BC.

Job Summary

This role involves working as a member of an interdisciplinary care team to provide non-clinical, peer-based services in accordance with established care plans. You will collaborate with healthcare professionals, utilize your lived experience to support patients, and facilitate individual peer support sessions, recovery groups, and information sessions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement care plans for patients.
  • Utilize your lived experience to provide emotional support, motivation, and guidance to patients navigating their health care journey.
  • Develop and deliver peer support sessions, recovery groups, and information sessions to promote patient empowerment and self-determination.
  • Assist patients in exploring skill-building opportunities, community integration, and natural support networks in their community.
Requirements
  • Certificate in a Social Services program and completion of a recognized Peer Support Training program.
  • Two years recent related experience in a peer support role or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Lived experience with recovery from addiction and/or mental illness, including peer knowledge of the designated service user population.
