Job Summary

MarshallZehr Group Inc. is seeking an experienced Business Development professional to join their team as a Director, Business Development. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the real estate lending and mortgage industry, with a proven track record of building relationships and driving business growth through consultative selling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sourcing and Arranging Transactions
    • Identify new clients and build a sales pipeline of qualified developer opportunities
    • Maintain and grow existing client base
    • Source, develop, and maintain relationships with lending partners
    • Deliver suitable risk-adjusted lending opportunities matching lender investment mandates
    • Ensure borrowers understand the nature of obligations when entering a mortgage agreement with lenders
  • Project Evaluation and Underwriting
    • Obtain and evaluate borrower project-specific financing information using sophisticated financial models and databases
    • Research and evaluate project analysis provided by the business development team or senior management
    • Communicate with borrower and lender stakeholders to outline project strengths and weaknesses
    • Review loan documents and drive transaction closings
  • Project Monitoring and Loan Compliance
    • Ongoing monitoring of project performance against loan agreements, budget, timelines, and key metrics
    • Assist in identifying or forecasting potential issues and highlighting concerns with the business development team and senior management
    • Evaluate options to create value for borrowers or lenders through reduced costs or improved risk mitigation
  • Reporting
    • Provide regular project reporting on pipeline activities, management, forecasting, transaction closings, repayments, stage of completion, loan compliance, and analysis
    • Assemble and present due diligence materials and professional marketing materials for lenders
    • Assist with accounting and financial reporting for MarshallZehr-related entities

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in business development or account management in the real estate lending and mortgage industry or finance
  • Formal education in real estate finance, analysis, valuation, cost consulting, or accounting
  • Organized with ability to manage multiple projects and pipeline simultaneously
  • Exceptional communicator with attention to detail
  • Strong understanding of the construction and development process, associated financing metrics, and financial modeling skills
  • Experience drafting and reviewing legal financing documents
  • Ability to continually assess and aid in the development and improvement of organizational processes and methods
  • Assist other members of the MarshallZehr team as required
  • Obtain mortgage agent license if not currently licensed (paid for by the company)

Work Environment

  • MZ offices are open Monday to Friday, with a minimum of 4 days per week on site and option to work remotely 1 day per week
