Job Title: Casual Dietary Aid

Golden Links Lodge Personal Care Home is seeking a Casual Dietary Aid to join our team. As a Casual Dietary Aid, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care to our residents by assisting with food preparation, serving, and cleaning duties.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with food preparation, including pre-preparation of food items, salad and sandwich production, and cleaning duties.
  • Ensure a safe and clean working environment by maintaining refrigerators, storerooms, service areas, and equipment in a clean and sanitary condition.
  • Work within the framework of Golden Links Lodge values, philosophy, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in the preparation and execution of special event meals and catering functions.
  • Operate dispensing machines, put away and bring out supplies as required.
  • Count, weigh, and/or measure ingredients for assigned food preparation.
  • Make beverages and food items such as tea, coffee, and toast; assemble items such as sandwiches and salads.
  • Wash, peel, and store vegetables and fruit.
  • Assist in maintaining cost control through portion control, careful storage, and usage of leftovers.
  • Clean, wash, and set tables neatly. Refill supplies as required.
  • Keep staff cafeteria and tables clean and tidy. Refill supplies as required.
  • Strip, rack, and wash items such as dishes, bins, and utensils; operate dishwashing machines; stack/store dishes, utensils.
  • Receive deliveries, checking invoice against items received. Advise supervisor of any damaged, short, or incorrect items.
  • Responsible for storing all foods, including deliveries, appropriately as soon as possible. Work to minimize spoilage and waste.
  • Unpack supplies when delivered, organize storeroom/refrigerators using the "first in – first out" stock rotation procedure.
Requirements:
  • Completion of Grade 10 required.
  • Food Handlers training certificate Level 1 or equivalent required.
  • Food service experience is preferred.
  • Able to carry out duties in a professional manner, working under minimum or no supervision, and in compliance with confidentiality of Lodge and Residents.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend fluent English required.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Able to mentally and physically meet the demands of the position, i.e., prolonged standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, and bending, etc.
  • Able to operate related equipment and maintain a clean work area.
  • Clean, neat appearance, remaining compliant to dress code.
  • Consistently able to arrive punctually and prepared to work.
  • Able to accept constructive criticism and to adapt to stressful situations.
  • Interested in the elderly, and in working to uphold the concepts of teamwork in caring for the needs of the Residents.
  • Able to work to improve food service for facility Residents and staff.
  • Must provide current criminal record check.
Working Conditions:

The Casual Dietary Aid will work in a fast-paced food service environment, with frequent exposure to food, cleaning chemicals, and other substances. The successful candidate must be able to work in a team environment, with minimal supervision, and maintain a clean and safe working environment.
