In this pivotal role with the British Council, you will be part of a dynamic Global Procurement team, working closely with experienced Senior Procurement Managers to execute sourcing plans and drive procurement projects within your assigned cluster.



Your key responsibilities will include:




  1. Building a deep understanding of the specific operational context, opportunities, and challenges facing your internal customers to provide informed business insight and procedural advice.
  2. Proactively engaging with internal customers and stakeholders to monitor satisfaction with the provided functional advice and business support, enabling improvements to be made where issues are identified.
  3. Applying core technical and professional knowledge to resolve non-standard issues that arise in the provision of functional support to specific organizational units or areas of corporate activity.
  4. Determining opportunities for procedural improvements within established policies and implementing those changes through the most appropriate mechanisms and processes.
  5. Ensuring awareness of relevant governance arrangements that relate to making system or procedural changes.
  6. Making technical recommendations to resolve specific or localised issues and contributing to the development of wider solutions to broader business challenges and problems.
  7. Providing proactive professional advice and support to internal customers to ensure the quality, effectiveness, and compliance of local or unit-specific business practices within their area of functional expertise.
  8. Maintaining and deepening their professional expertise through an annual cycle of formally recognized Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and staying up-to-date with developments in external policy, practice, and regulation within their professional discipline.
  9. Planning and managing the budget for their area of activity/service provision, conducting monthly and year-end reporting on income and expenditure, profitability, and risk, and demonstrating an understanding of value for money/cost effectiveness in the advice and recommendations provided to internal customers.

This role requires:




  • Extensive experience of working in a similar role at a similar level managing procurement projects or procurement teams.
  • Experience in leading and managing effective negotiations.
  • In-depth understanding of procurement processes and complex competitive bidding.
  • Good understanding of procurement project delivery, including Supplier Relationship Management.
  • Good business understanding across industry.
  • Understanding and experience of using various pricing models and tools.
  • Understanding of legal and operational risks.
  • Undergraduate degree holder or equivalent experience in procurement.
  • Qualified member of a professions body, e.g., CIPS or other relevant body, or equivalent experience.
  • Written and verbal proficiency in English at level B2 is required.


The British Council is an international organization that operates in English. The interview will be conducted entirely in English.
