Job Title: Intermediate Waste Management Specialist

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an experienced Intermediate Waste Management Specialist to join our team in Ontario. As a key member of our Environment Practice, you will play a crucial role in supporting environmental projects in the waste management sector.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support waste facility design and waste planning opportunities, including preparing design and operations plans, generating or modifying monitoring plans for groundwater, surface water, and landfill gases, and obtaining environmental compliance approvals and amendments for waste operations, air quality, and stormwater management discharges.
  • Support projects involving the calculation of landfill liabilities, completing capacity studies, and estimating waste density and consumption rates, assessing operations capacities, coordinating supplemental studies completed by specialists, including noise assessments, odour assessments, and traffic impact reviews.
  • Project coordination and management, including tracking costs and managing budgets, hiring and directing subcontractors, and evaluating and analyzing data using standardized and complex methods.
  • Executing technical tasks requiring accuracy in calculations, completeness, and adherence to prescribed data testing methods, preparing reports, proposals, and other project documents of varying complexity, and supervising less experienced staff on a project basis and providing technical direction and mentoring.
Requirements:
  • A minimum of 4 years of practical, progressive solid waste management consulting experience, including relevant experience in various facets of the waste management sector.
  • Must be eligible to be licensed as a P.Eng. by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) within 12 months of hire.
  • Possess demonstrable knowledge and skills in at least one relevant discipline, including landfill engineering design/construction management, environmental compliance, and waste management planning and support.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental laws, regulations, and guidelines as they apply to environmental projects in Ontario.
  • Ability to identify and manage implementation of practical, cost-effective solutions to client problems and/or potential non-compliance situations, with demonstrated expertise in contractor supervision, project management, and contract administration.
