At Nishnawbe-Aski Legal Services Corporation, we are seeking a qualified Staff Lawyer to provide exceptional legal services to our community members. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Director of Legal Services and be responsible for providing high-quality legal services in accordance with the NAN Legal mandate, vision, mission, and principles.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide legal services in Criminal law, Family law, and administrative matters, with a strong understanding of Indigenous law and justice.
  2. Maintain a membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario and meet the necessary reporting and legislative requirements.
  3. Develop and implement effective case and file management skills, as well as administrative and coordination skills, stress management, and time management skills.
  4. Build strong relationships with community members and stakeholders, utilizing excellent verbal and listening communication skills in conflict resolution and nonviolent crisis intervention.
  5. Stay up-to-date with legal resources in the community and possess a working knowledge of SharePoint/PeopleSoft, MS Office Software, Internet, and general office equipment.
  6. Proficiency in speaking the language or knowledge of NAN First Nation languages is an asset.

Location and Hours: Dryden, Sioux Lookout, Kenora, ON. Full-time position (35 hours per week). Salary commensurate with education and experience.
