Job Summary

The Transportation Training and Development Field Officer is a critical role within CN, responsible for ensuring the safety and regulatory compliance of employees in the field. This position requires a strong understanding of transportation regulations and a proven ability to lead by example in promoting a safety-first culture.

Main Responsibilities
  • Evaluate Employee Performance: Conduct regular evaluations of employee performance in the field to ensure compliance with regulations, company policies, and standards.
  • Support Employee Development: Provide regular mentoring and coaching to Transportation employees to support their development and growth within the company.
  • Provide In-Field Training: Develop and deliver in-field training programs to ensure employees have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their jobs safely and efficiently.
  • Manage Qualifications and Certifications: Oversee the management of qualifications and certifications for Transportation employees and managers, including supporting employees who are returning from leaves.
  • Support Talent Acquisition: Collaborate with the Talent Acquisition team to recruit and onboard new employees.
  • Support Local Operations: Work closely with the local Operations team to ensure employees understand operating rules and practices.
  • Ensure Training Events: Ensure all training events are properly documented and input into the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Maintain Training Resources: Maintain training resource equipment, job aids, and scheduled maintenance records.
  • Ensure Current Training Materials: Ensure training materials and job aids are current and up-to-date to support employee development.
  • Participate in Safety Audits: Participate in safety audits, safety summits, and perform safety observations on employees.
  • Support Training Programs: Support the delivery of training programs and initiatives at campuses, as required.
Working Conditions

The Transportation Training and Development Field Officer will work in a combination of office and outdoor environments, with irregular working hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The role requires occasional travel (up to 50%) in the field to deliver trainings.

Requirements
  • Railway Experience: Minimum 5 years of railway experience, with experience working as a Conductor, Locomotive Engineer, Remote Control Operator, or a combination of the above.
  • Coaching and Mentoring Experience: Experience coaching and mentoring Transportation employees.
  • Behaviour-Based Safety Principles: Experience with behaviour-based safety principles and leadership.
  • Education/Certification/Designation: High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED), valid Driver's License, and successful completion of CN's medical assessment.
  • Competencies: Leads by example for the safety and security of all, develops self and others, demonstrates active listening, sets direction and inspires others, communicates with impact, applies critical thinking, collaborates with others and shares information, knows the business and stays current on industry needs, and considers environmental impacts in every decision and action.
  • Technical Skills/Knowledge: Knowledge of change management best practices, strong knowledge of the Transportation department and field operations, proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), proficient with internal applications such as Systems, Applications and Products (SAP), and fluently bilingual, both written and verbal (English, French).
