The First Nations University of Canada is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the role of Indigenous Economic Development Lead. This position is part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing the quality of life and preserving, protecting, and interpreting First Nations people's history, language, culture, and artistic heritage.

This leadership role will play a critical part in driving economic reconciliation through research, policy, and programming development for organizations. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of Indigenous economies, business, and entrepreneurial histories and current landscapes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the advocacy, identification, storytelling, and showcasing of exemplars of economic reconciliation
  • Develop and manage budgets and expenditures in collaboration with senior management
  • Provide strategic vision and support its implementation through project plans
  • Manage staff through effective recruitment, selection, training, and performance monitoring
  • Support research in economic reconciliation, Indigenous business, and entrepreneurship
  • Create digital infrastructure to serve as a national repository and archival resource of case studies, stories, and examples
  • Promote awareness of the National Indigenous Economic Strategy for Canada and NIEPI's work

Requirements:

  • A minimum of nine years of progressively responsible experience, including five years in a senior management role
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Proven proficiency facilitating, liaising, and advocating within an Indigenous organization or academic institution
  • Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies in a community-driven environment
