Job Summary

The Lead Youth Activity Worker is a front-line position at the Boys Girls Club of Winnipeg that is responsible for planning and leading activities and programs for children and youth ages 6-18 year old.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead activities and programs for children and youth, including arts and culture, sports and recreation, leadership and service to the community, health and life-skills, and education and career exploration.
  • Prepare meals and snacks, and purchase program supplies.
  • Mentor Activity Workers and volunteers, and promote safety and deal with incidents and sensitive issues.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with children and youth, and expand their skills and interests.

Requirements

  • Experience planning and leading activities for children and youth.
  • Strong group management skills, including the ability to think quickly on their feet and stay calm under pressure.
  • Good organizational and time management skills, including the ability to handle a program budget/petty cash.
  • Knowledge and experience within cross-cultural settings, and knowledge of youth development, youth issues and community resources.
  • A strong commitment to social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion, and truth and reconciliation.
  • A valid Class 5F Manitoba Driver's License with a clear Driver's Abstract, and the ability to provide clear criminal record and child abuse registry checks obtained within the past 6 months.

Assets

  • Pursuing or have a post-secondary education in Education, Child and Youth Care or related social sciences field.
  • Experience leading or mentoring staff or volunteers, and valid First Aid & CPR certification, and a valid Safe Food Handling Certificate.
