Overview:

Under the guidance of the Director of Neurodevelopmental Services, the Clinical Service Leader – Speech and Language Pathology (CSL – SLP) is responsible for spearheading the creation and implementation of comprehensive, high-quality therapeutic services. This includes:

  • Delivering FASD assessment services as the primary focus, while also providing consultation, leadership, and mentorship within the interdisciplinary diagnostic team for FASD.
  • Collaborating with the Director/Manager to offer clinical supervision, support, and professional development for Speech and Language Pathologists (SLPs) across the Rehabilitation Centre for Children (RCC).
  • Overseeing research initiatives and the formulation of best practice guidelines for SLP services at RCC, including FASD assessment, ASD assessment, the Relate Program, AAC, and outpatient services.
Key Responsibilities
  • Cultivates positive interpersonal relationships by exemplifying professional conduct and practice.
  • Accountable for client care provision, which encompasses diagnostic consultation, mentorship, assessment, intervention, and follow-up for children up to 17 years old referred for FASD assessment.
  • Works in partnership with the Director/Manager to supervise SLP staff, which includes recruitment, orientation, mentoring, quality assurance, and performance evaluations.
  • Coordinates and enhances educational opportunities for staff, develops and/or conducts educational workshops and resources, and organizes placements for SLP students.
  • Leads the establishment of best practice guidelines for service activities in collaboration with Directors/Managers and other team members.
  • Encourages and nurtures a culture of clinical inquiry, research, program development, and ongoing evaluation.
  • Acts as a liaison with other clinical leaders throughout the province.
Qualifications and Experience: Required
  • A Clinical Master's degree in Speech and Language Pathology.
  • Registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Manitoba (CASLPM).
  • A minimum of five (5) years of recent and relevant experience in pediatric services.
Preferred
  • A graduate degree at the master's level (non-clinical) in a related health or health management field.
  • Familiarity with the healthcare system, including experience in leadership, supervision, waitlist management, quality improvement, research, and the development of evidence-informed practice guidelines.
  • Experience across a broad spectrum of SLP practices such as FASD Assessment, ASD Assessment, AAC, RELATE, and outpatient or outreach SLP assessment and treatment.
  • Proven ability to develop, organize, deliver, and assess educational events for adult learners.
  • Capability to work independently and experience in leading or collaborating within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to foster a collaborative practice environment.
