Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for operating heavy equipment, such as snow plows and graders, to maintain roadways and other surfaces during the winter season. In the summer, this role will involve repairing and maintaining highway and other surfaces, including signs, guardrails, and lighting.



Key Responsibilities

  • Removal of snow and ice by using snow removal and/or sanding equipment, including salting and other seasonal maintenance on roads, bridges, etc.
  • Maintenance and repair of highway and other surfaces, including signs, guardrails, fence, lighting, potholes, striping, adding or replacing reflectors, litter and debris removal
  • Traffic control setup and removal
  • Transport crew and equipment to work sites
  • Required to be available for emergency response rotations as needed for overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays


Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ years related work experience in related construction, road maintenance, commercial/industrial repair, operating equipment through use of DZ license
  • Valid Ontario Class DZ driver's license and acceptable driving record / AZ license a plus
  • Ability to work in an environment in which demands and priorities change rapidly
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with coworkers


Work Environment

The employee is routinely exposed to outside weather conditions including extreme heat and cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high precarious places; fume or airborne particles. Frequent exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, frequent exposure to insects and infrequent exposure to reptiles/rodents, the noise level in the work environment usually moderate but on occasion can be more than moderate.
