Job Summary:

The TEEMA Group is seeking a highly skilled Educational Interpreter to join our team. As a key member of our educational team, the successful candidate will play a vital role in facilitating communication among students who are deaf or hard of hearing, their peers, classroom teachers, and other school personnel.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Communication Facilitation: Provide expressive and voice interpreting for students who are deaf or hard of hearing in general education classes.
  • Tutoring and Support Services: Under the direction of the classroom teacher, provide tutoring/review services as necessary without interrupting interpreting tasks.
  • Setup and Coordination: Assist with the setup of note-taking services for students when required.
  • Team Collaboration: Actively participate in educational team activities, including team meetings, IEP conferences, and informal staffings, providing valuable input on communication strategies.
  • Liaison Services: Serve as a liaison between students who are deaf or hard of hearing, their hearing peers, staff, and faculty members.
  • Professional Development: Lead or assist in providing in-services to students, staff, and parents about sign language, Deaf culture, and interpreting.
  • Interpreting Services: Provide interpreting for school functions, extracurricular activities, and parent meetings as requested, with compensation agreed upon in advance for services outside normal school hours.
  • Confidentiality and Professionalism: Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards as outlined in the Code of Ethics of the National Registry of Interpreters.
Requirements:
  • Language Proficiency: Proficiency in American Sign Language, Manually Coded English, Pidgin Signed English, and/or Oral Interpreting.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication skills to effectively liaise between students, peers, and staff.
  • Confidentiality and Professionalism: Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards as delineated in the Code of Ethics of the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
  • Liaison Services: Ability to serve as a liaison between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their hearing peers, staff, and faculty members.
  • Professional Development: Ability to lead or assist in providing in-services regarding sign language, deafness, Deaf culture, interpreting, and consumer education.
