Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Water Resource Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our department, you will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing and evaluating technical reports received in support of regulatory approvals, including environmental assessments.
  • Overseeing the technical and administrative management of the provincial hydrometric network.
  • Contributing to the vision, long-term goals, and strategies for advancing our approach to water resource allocation and management.
  • Leading the development of regulatory amendments, standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures to support program outcomes.
  • Providing subject matter expertise in public meetings, community outreach programs, interdepartmental task forces, or committees dealing with specific water resources management issues.
Qualifications and Experience

You must be a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) licensed to practice in Nova Scotia or eligible to be licensed in Nova Scotia, with a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or Environmental Engineering. To ensure success in this role, you have at least 6 years of applied engineering experience in the following areas:

  • A sound understanding of water and environmental-related principles and engineering concepts, including hydraulics and hydrology.
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting data from hydraulic and hydrologic models.
  • Experience developing or reviewing surface water management plans, water quantity monitoring programs, and water balance studies.
  • Developing and managing water quantity monitoring programs.
  • Experience leading programs and projects.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring junior engineers.
Assets

The following are considered assets: experience and/or knowledge of:

  • Provincial and federal legislation, regulations, policies, and programs relevant to water resource engineering.
  • Strong computer skills in spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation packages.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills that allow you to synthesize and articulate complex technical information to various audiences.
  • ArcGIS Pro experience.
Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $3,231.58 - $3,800.42 bi-weekly, plus benefits such as a defined benefit pension plan, health, dental, life insurance, general illness, short- and long-term disability, vacation, and employee and family assistance programs.
