Water Treatment Plant Operator

Halifax Water is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Water Treatment Plant Operator to join our team.
Job Summary:The Water Treatment Plant Operator will be responsible for operating and maintaining water treatment plants, performing maintenance on equipment, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the facilities.
Key Responsibilities:- Operate and maintain water treatment plants, including pumps, mechanical equipment, and chemical systems.
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing parts as needed.
- Monitor and control water quality, including taking samples and conducting tests.
- Transport and mix chemicals, and operate equipment used for unloading chemicals.
- Take daily readings and log any irregularities in the process operations.
- Monitor and take daily readings of weather station instruments.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and other activities.
- Perform on-the-job training of new operators and provide guidance and support as needed.
- Conduct tours of water treatment plant facilities and provide information to visitors.
- Two-year technical program in water treatment or a related field.
- Valid Nova Scotia Driver's License.
- Previous experience in water treatment plant operation and maintenance.
- Ability to work safely and follow all codes and regulations.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- General knowledge of computerized environments and familiarity with software pertinent to water treatment facilities.
The Water Treatment Plant Operator will work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to chemicals, heavy machinery, and other hazards. The operator must be able to work safely and follow all codes and regulations.
