Water Supply Plant Supervisor

Halifax Water is seeking a highly skilled Water Supply Plant Supervisor to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the management and operation of assigned treatment facilities, staff, pumping stations, dams, and ancillary assets.
Key Responsibilities:- Directly responsible for overseeing the production of water that conforms with Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines, Operating Approvals, other regulations, and targets as applicable.
- Establish operating targets and plant procedures for operation and maintenance to ensure that water quality goals are achieved.
- Supervise the operation of the plant treatment process.
- Directly responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of pumping and treatment facilities, including staffing, time and schedule management, chemical inventory management, preventative and reactive maintenance utilizing Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), and maintaining an appropriate spare part inventory.
- Responsible for ensuring accurate analysis and interpretation of plant data. Oversees facility laboratory management.
- Implement and maintain QA/QC of instrumentation and equipment in accordance with applicable standards or regulations.
- Identify possible human resource performance issues, make recommendations on disciplinary actions up to and including termination of employment.
- Ensure accurate records management in accordance with regulatory and business process obligations.
- Ensures all responsibilities are met as it pertains to the ISO 14001 compliant Environmental Management System for the entire scope of the certification and established standard operating procedures.
- Assist in the management and operation of the watershed and dam structures.
- Manage the operation and maintenance of all electrical equipment in treatment and pumping facilities. Coordinate the installation and maintenance of supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) equipment.
- Work with the Manager, Water Supply Plants to ensure that a five-year capital plan is in place for the facility. This includes assistance with enhanced capital programs or asset management plans. Provide technical input for new projects during the design and construction phases as required.
- Facilitate the execution of capital work at the facilities and ensure reliable facility operation throughout.
- Assist with the preparation of operating budgets for the facility and review of departmental business plans.
- Maintain responsibility for reliable supply of water to the transmission and distribution system. Work with the Manager, engineering and water distribution staff to plan for, and respond to system emergencies, capital projects and major maintenance activities.
- Responsible for the production and reporting of daily, monthly and annual reports.
- Provide guidance and direction to water supply plant operators and other plant staff.
- Perform on-the-job training of plant staff, students, and of operators in training from other water supply organizations.
- Contribute to a positive working environment and staff morale. Conducts regular staff meetings and ensures good communications.
- Maintain current knowledge of trends/developments through networking with government agencies, regulatory bodies, professionals in the field and other sources.
- Periodically act on behalf of the Manager.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager
