Water Supply Plant Supervisor

Halifax Water is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Water Supply Plant Supervisor to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for the management and operation of our water treatment facilities, ensuring the delivery of high-quality water to our customers.
Key Responsibilities:- Oversee the daily operation and maintenance of our water treatment facilities, including staffing, time and schedule management, chemical inventory management, and preventative and reactive maintenance.
- Ensure accurate analysis and interpretation of plant data, and oversee facility laboratory management.
- Implement and maintain QA/QC of instrumentation and equipment in accordance with applicable standards or regulations.
- Identify and address human resource performance issues, and make recommendations on disciplinary actions.
- Ensure accurate records management in accordance with regulatory and business process obligations.
- Manage the operation and maintenance of all electrical equipment in treatment and pumping facilities, and coordinate the installation and maintenance of SCADA equipment.
- Work with the Manager, Water Supply Plants to ensure a five-year capital plan is in place for the facility, and provide technical input for new projects during the design and construction phases.
- Facilitate the execution of capital work at the facilities, and ensure reliable facility operation throughout.
- Assist with the preparation of operating budgets for the facility, and review of departmental business plans.
- Responsible for the production and reporting of daily, monthly, and annual reports.
- Provide guidance and direction to water supply plant operators and other plant staff.
- Perform on-the-job training of plant staff, students, and operators in training from other water supply organizations.
- Contribute to a positive working environment and staff morale, and conduct regular staff meetings and ensure good communications.
- Maintain current knowledge of trends and developments through networking with government agencies, regulatory bodies, professionals in the field, and other sources.
- Periodically act on behalf of the Manager.
- Two-year technical program related to Water Treatment, or an equivalent combination of related formal education and experience in a water treatment environment.
- Minimum of five years' experience in a water treatment environment.
- Minimum of two years of direct supervisory experience in a water treatment environment or related discipline.
- Class III or IV Water Treatment Operator Certificate, depending on plant requirements.
- Valid NS driver's license.
- Willingness to undertake and maintain safety training, including First Aid, WHMIS, and additional safety training as identified based on legislative and operational requirements.
- Excellent knowledge of mechanical and electrical operation of a municipal water system.
- Excellent leadership, motivation, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work within a team environment to accomplish organizational goals.
- Demonstrated supervisory ability and organizational capability.
- Computer literacy and experience in a computerized environment.
