Medical Mentor Nurse Leader

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Scholar Registered Nurse to join our team at Brightshores. As a mentor, you will be responsible for guiding newly graduated nurses in their transition into the workforce.
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to work in a supernumerary position, providing mentorship to new nurses and supporting their growth and development. You will work closely with experienced nurses and other healthcare professionals to promote health, assess, provide care, and treat medical patients.
Main Responsibilities
- Mentor newly graduated nurses in their transition into the workforce
- Provide guidance and support to help them develop their clinical skills and knowledge
- Work collaboratively with experienced nurses and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient care
- Promote health, assess, provide care, and treat medical patients to attain or maintain optimal function
Qualifications and Skills
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- A physical assessment course
- CC1 or equivalent experience
- At least two years of current medical experience within the last five years
- Oncology and palliative care nursing experience within the last 2 years
- Experience in administration of chemotherapy drugs and management of side effects
- Venipunctures to establish an IV required
- IV medications below the drip chamber
- Central line care – including tubing, dressing change ,line removal and blood sampling
- Maintenance of TPN
- Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing population and patient needs
- Leadership, problem-solving, decision-making, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Interviewing and patient assessment skills
- Interest and experience in patient education and health promotion
- Commitment to continuous professional development and continuing education
- Participation in staff meetings and unit-specific projects
- Availability to work day shifts during the week (8 and 12 hour)
- Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records
- Adherence to Brightshores 'CARE' Behaviours (Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence) and 'LEAD' Competencies (Lead by example, Empower, Achieve results, Develop others)
- Advocacy and support for a culture of patient safety and understanding of how department services and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at Brightshores through patient safety knowledge, skills, and attitudes
Preferred Qualifications
- Baccalaureate Degree in nursing
- BCLS certification
- Additional education pertaining to palliative care and oncology
- Broad medical experience preferred
- Oncology Certificate
