Tenure-Track Professor of Indigenous Studies

About the Position:

We are seeking a tenure-track professor to join our department of Religious Studies and Gender Studies at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Position Summary:

This is a full-time tenure-track position commencing July 1, 2024. The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent degree in a relevant field and demonstrated competence in method and theory in the study of religious and/or spiritual traditions.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach introductory and senior/graduate level courses in the Study of Religion and Gender Studies, including courses in method and theory;
  • Supervise honours and MA students in their research;
  • Expand course offerings in the Departments of Religious Studies and Gender Studies;
Requirements:

The successful candidate must have completed a PhD or equivalent degree in a relevant field and have demonstrated competence in method and theory in the study of religious and/or spiritual traditions. A teaching portfolio demonstrating the ability to teach introductory and senior/graduate level courses in the Study of Religion and Gender Studies is required.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary for this position is estimated to be around $100,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience. In addition to the salary, the university offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, as well as a pension plan.

Working Conditions:

The successful candidate will work on a shared campus between the Departments of Religious Studies and Gender Studies, with opportunities to collaborate with colleagues from other departments and faculties.

Education Requirements:

A PhD or equivalent degree in a relevant field is required for this position. Applicants should clearly articulate in their cover letter how their research and teaching fit into the position's focus on Gender, Power, and Religions in the Americas.
