Job Title: Health and Safety Specialist

At EllisDon, we are seeking a highly skilled Health and Safety Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our safety team, you will play a critical role in promoting a safe working environment and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct site-specific safety orientations and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with health and safety procedures.
  • Monitor employees and subcontractors to ensure adherence to health and safety protocols, including training and standard operating procedures.
  • Proactively identify and prevent hazardous situations, and participate in investigations of safety concerns, incidents, and accidents.
  • Act as a first aid attendant and coordinate emergency response at the workplace.
  • Develop and implement training programs on workplace safety, including WHMIS, Fall Protection, Personal Protective Equipment, CPR/First Aid, Emergency Response, and Security.
  • Lead and maintain a safety-first culture, ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation and regulations.
  • Review subcontractors' pre-construction safety submittals and enforce procedures on government health and safety standards and regulations.
  • Compile and analyze project health and safety statistics to identify trends and required actions.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 7-10 years of safety construction experience, preferably in institutional, commercial, residential, or civil projects.
  • Ability to delegate and influence others to follow safety rules and regulations.
  • Working towards or already certified under the Occupational Health and Safety Act/Regulations, with experience working on a construction site.
  • Occupational First Aid Certificate (OFA L2 minimum, with certified Transportation Endorsement) - mandatory.
  • Construction Safety Officer certificate or National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) certificate for British Columbia - preferred.
  • Construction Safety Coordinator Gold Seal certified and/or CRSP designation - considered an asset.
  • International certification (NEBOSH, ISO 45001, IGC, etc.) - considered an asset.
  • Experience with the Certificate of Recognition (COR) Program.
  • Fall Protection expertise.
Working Conditions:
  • Exposure to moderately adverse and undesirable environmental conditions, with some health and safety risks.
  • Work requires heavy physical exertion, effort, and strain, with forces exerted equivalent to lifting between 10 to 25 kilograms/20 – 50 pounds.
