Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Security Officer to join our team at McLean Hospital. As a Security Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide protective services to people and property, responding to routine and emergency calls for service.
  • Assist with day-to-day operations of the department, performing daily operational functions as directed.
  • Respond to emergency situations, documenting all incidents and informing the Dispatcher of actions taken.
  • Utilize strong customer service skills and community policing philosophies to develop and build strong relationships with the hospital community.
  • Manage complex and dynamic situations to help restore order, investigate nefarious or criminal activity, and take the appropriate safety and security actions.
  • Conduct initial investigations into all reports of suspicious activity, persons, hazards, or risk, and take the necessary steps to mitigate risk.
  • Perform access control functions, including ensuring that all employees, vendors, and contractors are in possession of an authorized form of identification.
  • Perform Dispatch and/or Console duties as assigned, coordinating Security activities and acting as a liaison to other McLean departments and external agencies.
Requirements
  • Minimum of a high school diploma required; a strong educational background in criminal justice or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 1-3 years of security or related experience preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Massachusetts Driver's License.
  • Must obtain and maintain required certification in CPR/AED/First Aid, CPI De-Escalation Training, and International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Basic Officer Certification.

  • Ability to deal with and deescalate anxious or stressed people, and manage aggression.
  • Competence to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws, hospital policies, and procedures.
